Program Title: Teach One to Lead One (T1L1)

Program Description: The Teach One to Lead One® (T1L1) philosophy will be used to develop character and leadership skills of young people in Cobb County. The T1L1 program includes materials and personnel that equip young people to build lives of integrity, create positive relationships, stand strong in healthy habits and to multiply their influence among their peers. This international program includes mentoring, powerful training aids, practical materials, exciting presentations and hands-on activities. The delivery of T1L1 is comprised of several components as described below: Curriculum – Students will receive weekly instruction in the classroom as specified in the T1L1 curriculum. The program emphasizes principle-based living to the students and it challenges them to adopt that philosophy in their lives. The T1L1 Facilitator will introduce concepts and provide students with application opportunities for those concepts through stories, group activities, role-playing, etc. Each weekly session is designed to help the student visualize how to implement the principles in their life and how to influence others.

If yes, describe: Conventional program consist of sixteen sessions (14 curriculum based, 1 service project and graduation. Groups normally meet one day per week for sixteen weeks. Summer camps include sixteen sessions over five day period. Juvenile court program groups meet in the evenings and include two parent sessions.

Requirements from school: School should provide the classroom or conference space and related equipment (DVD player, monitor/Tv) appropriate for the delivery of the weekly classroom sessions. The schools will provide a Teacher to be present in the classroom during the delivery of the program. The Teacher will assist the Facilitator in matters related to school policy and school standards. It will be the responsibility of the Facilitator to manage the volunteers and the delivery of the program. It will be the responsibility of the Teacher to maintain student discipline and ensure student adherence to all School Policies during the delivery of the program.

Description evaluation: Student assessments will be administered at the beginning of the program and at the end of each semester. The student assessment process measures student thoughts, feelings and behaviors. Each item on the student assessment relates to the character and leadership traits specified in the intended outcomes. The Scantron forms collected during the student pre-assessment process will be scanned, analyzed and reported through the Professional Development and Assessment Center, an independent organization dedicated to assessing the success of character education programs. (Appendix 3.1) Student Assessment administration instructions are provided (Appendix 3.2). A. The pre-assessment results will be scored and summarized into the following documents: a. Teach One to Lead One Behavior report will provide summarized scores for each assessment item. b. Teach One to Lead One Character and Leadership Graph will provide a visual comparison of student responses compared to average responses. c. Teach One to Lead One Letter of Recommendation suggest guidelines for improvement based on results provided on the Teach One to Lead One Behavior Report and the Teach One to Lead One Character and Leadership Graph. These documents should be used as a baseline. (Appendix 3.3) The post-assessment results will be scored, summarized and compared to the Pre-Assessment results to objectively measure the desired student outcomes such as discipline issues; student academic achievement; participation in extracurricular activities; parental and community involvement; student morale and overall improvements in school climates for all students, including students with disabilities (including those with intellectual and physical disabilities). Post Assessment Comparison Report will be used to measure student character and leadership growth as it relates to overall school improvements. This report will provide guidance about effective strategies suitable for replication or testing in other settings. Project goals may be enhanced or student assessments may be modified to improve overall effectiveness of the program. School attendance, grades, behavior referrals may also be obtained from school administrators.
