Get GA Reading Webinar – Language as a Missing Link

July 16, 2020 @ 12:30 pm - 2:00 pm

Developmentally appropriate language skills—from childhood through adolescence—can dramatically impact an individual’s quality of life and life outcomes. Conversely, the failure to develop a capacity for effective communication jeopardizes social neurodevelopment, educational attainment, and emotional and behavioral health. The resulting consequences can include an increased risk of persistent emotional and mental health problems, school dropout, involvement with the juvenile justice system, and unemployment.

It is time to institute a new, systematic approach that employs proactive measures to educate those who interact with children and adolescents about the critical role of language skills and the ways in which frequent and positive connections with caregivers, educators, and peers are non-negotiable for ensuring positive quality of life. This presentation provides a comprehensive summary of research and recommendations to address language as a missing link to make a substantial positive impact on a child’s social, emotional, and academic development and quality of life.

Join Dr. Gary McGiboney from Georgia DOE and Arianne Weldon from the Get GA Reading Campaign for this webinar. This is part of the national Campaign for Grade Level Reading’s  virtual conference. Register for this free event HERE
