Dr. Allison Garefino, Clinical Director, Children and Family Programs, Kennesaw State University
More about Dr. Garefino:
Dr. Allison Garefino is a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh, earning her Ph.D. in clinical Psychology from the University at Buffalo. She brings over 20 years of experience and expertise in bringing a 2 Generation lens to training, implementation, and evaluation of psychosocial interventions for children with a range of behavioral, academic, and social difficulties. Trained in Participatory Analysis for Community Action (PACA) as a Primary Education Teacher Trainer in the U. S. Peace Corps (Cabo Verde ’99-’01), she has a long-standing interest in both clinical implementation and research, focusing on the intersection between whole family behavioral well-being and pedagogy. She has significant experience in the implementation of randomized controlled trials in both laboratory and community settings. Upon graduating from SUNY Buffalo in 2009 she taught as a Part-Time assistant professor at Kennesaw State University. In 2015 Dr. Garefino established the Children and Family Programs (CFP), modeled after her mentor Dr. Pelham’s Center for Children and Families. In 2016 CFP was recognized as an internship site, and by 2018 was awarded her first grant. Now a Research Scholar in the Wellstar College of Health and Human Services and Clinical Director of the Children and Family Programs she runs several grant funded programs in areas schools and higher education institutions with a focus on 2Gen Trauma Informed care and programming.
