Mind Your Mind Speaks: S5 EP19

MIND-YOUR-MIND-SPEAKS-horizontal

Welcome to the Mind Your Mind Speaks Podcast!
In this episode, Executive Director Irene Barton sits down with Julia, owner of The Bookworm Bookstore in Powder Springs and creator of Bookworm Fest, a week-long celebration for book lovers of all ages. Julia has called Cobb County home for more than 20 years but was born and raised in a small town in New York. Inspired by her parents’ deep community involvement, Julia has built a vibrant hub of connection, creativity, and literacy through her work.

Together, they talk about Julia’s unexpected journey to bookstore ownership—how a quick trip to buy one book turned into buying the entire store! Julia shares some of her biggest challenges and greatest joys of running a small business, the importance of literacy and print awareness, and how The Bookworm has become much more than a bookstore—it’s a gathering place that cultivates community and belonging.

Two books Julia thinks everyone should read:

  • James by Percival Everett
  • Sky Full of Elephants by Cebo Campbell
