Welcome to the city of Kennesaw! If you are interested in free or low-cost summer activities focused on enriching kids and getting them excited about reading, follow our activity guide below…

Bernard A. Zuckerman Museum of Art

A part of Kennesaw State University, the Bernard A. Zuckerman Museum of Art is an academic resource for all of Kennesaw located at 492 Prillaman Way Kennesaw, GA. Featuring permanent exhibits owned by the school as well as seasonal contemporary works by local and national artists, Zuckerman is a fantastic local museum. Stop by from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday. Starting August 29th, the UNDERflow exhibit will be featured which includes pieces by five Afro-Caribbean Artists and will be available until December 9th. Be sure to also stop by for the Family Friendly Spring Arts Festival in February!

2nd & Charles

Looking for books, music, toys, games, and other entertainment media at a discounted price? 2nd & Charles is the perfect place to buy and sell used items! With thousands of books in every genre, you are sure to find something worth a read. Legos, board games, collectibles, movies, and more are also available for purchase. With a large record and instrument collection, you can browse for hours. Open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Sunday.

Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park

Once the location of a Civil War battleground, Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park now has a museum presenting its rich history and a multitude of outdoor activities. Stop by the visitor center to watch the park movie, visit the bookstore, and visit the museum before heading out onto the mountain to hike, follow a Ranger Led Hike, view historical reenactments, go horseback riding, or picnic! Southern Museum of Civil War and Locomotive History

Open Tuesday through Saturday from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. the Southern Museum of Civil War and Locomotive History provides insight into daily life during the civil war. Come experience a reproduction of a locomotive factory, a depiction of the Great Locomotive Chase, and interactive exhibits for $10 per adult and $5 per child. Mommy and me as well as the Homeschool Workshop Series are available programs through the museum. Learn more on the website or call at 770-427-2117.

Swift Cantrell Park

Featuring two different playgrounds, multiple trails, a splash-pad, and a dog park, Swift Cantrell Park has everything needed to entertain any age group. Come visit to picnic in the green area, bike the trails, or skate at Kennesaw Skatepark. A Wi-FI Hotspot, Wellness Station, and restrooms are also available for your convenience.

North Cobb Regional Library

Opened in 2019 as a combination of Kennesaw and Acworth’s libraries, North Cobb regional Library is a great place to find new books! Fill out their Book Match form to be matched with books perfect for you and find new authors or stop by for their family story times, book discussions, summer sewing events, Pokemon club meetups, and more! View all events online or stop in Monday through Wednesday 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday and Friday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. or Saturday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. to learn more.
