The 2020 Census is Coming!

For the past few months, Cobb’s Complete Count Committee and the Cobb Collaborative have been hard at work spreading awareness and educating the public about the 2020 Census. As the calendar turns to 2020, messaging will change to mobilization to inform people about the WHEN, WHAT and HOW. You will see messaging from the Collaborative on a regular basis on our social media platforms, website and these newsletters that address these areas. Here’s a summary:

WHEN – By April 1, 2020, every home will receive an invitation to participate in the 2020 Census.
WHAT – Basic questions that do not invade privacy. Here is a summary of the questions. The Census is a RESIDENCY count – NOT a citizenship count.
HOW – There will be 3 options for responding: Online, Phone or Mail. Watch this PSA.

Many people are still concerned about a serious under count, particularly of children. Sometimes children are missed simply because adults in their households don’t return the census questionnaire. Most often, people who do return the forms just forget to count everyone under their roof. They may leave off young children who live with them or may be staying with them temporarily. This most often occurs in so-called “complex households” — for example, those with multiple generations of a family, unrelated families living together, and blended or foster families.

Let’s work together to ensure a complete count in Cobb! We are happy to provide you with electronic or hard copy flyers, attend events, create messaging for you to share, or more. Please contact Irene with any questions or requests.
